This annual event is held to promote the special ethos of Catholic schools and to highlight the great things that take place in Catholic schools every day.  </p><p>The theme for this year's celebrations is:  <strong>Discovering New Horizons. </strong>Catholic education strives to make a difference in the lives of those in our schools and in the wider community by challenging young people to live out the message of Jesus and to reach their full potential as compassionate, contributing, life-giving members of society.</p><p> <br>During Catholic Education Week 2018, Catholic education communities across Queensland are invited to celebrate how they are discovering new horizons.  There are 304 Catholic schools in Queensland that educate around 147,000 students and employ more than 19,000 teachers and staff, and most will celebrate Catholic Education Week in some way. </p><p>St Kieran's is planning a number of activities during the week and will join with Sacred Heart Primary School of Friday, 3 August for a day of celebrations. <br></p><p>​</p>

Family Fun Dayhttp://www.stkieranbrighton.qld.edu.au/featured-news/Pages/Family-Fun-Day.aspxFamily Fun Day<p style="text-align:center;"><strong>St Kieran's Primary School is set to hold its family fun day on Sunday, July 22</strong></p><p>The St Kieran's school grounds will be overflowing with family-filled entertainment on Sunday, 22 July with their annual family fun day.</p><p>This year's event will have all the family favourites including rides for all ages, games, stalls, food hall, trash and treasure, farmers markets and much more.</p><p>P&F Co-President Mr Chris Edwards said the fete held last year was extremely well attended.</p><p>“We are really excited about running the Family Fun Day again in 2018, and we have so much planned for families to enjoy," he said. </p><p>“The school community is getting behind the event providing attractions, prizes for raffles and donations and it's thanks to our gold sponsors, including McDonalds Bracken Ridge,  McCormacks Tyre and Suspension, Cafe 63, Crossfit 4017, Fred The Builders, Rackleys Swimming and our local Councillor Jared Cassidy that we are able to have some great prizes in our Cent Auction and Art Union."</p><p>Principal Mr Ben Gray said the event is a great opportunity for families to get together, enjoy the day out and helps promote a strong sense of community.</p><p>“It's wonderful to see so many families having fun, enjoying the event and finding out more about our school community," he said. </p><p>"An attraction which will be a definite show stopper will be our Dunk-a-teacher stand" Mr Gray said.</p><p>"We have a very dedicated team of teachers who are more than willing to volunteer for this attraction and students are very excited at the idea of being able to dunk their teacher".<br></p><p>There will also be a sideshow alley where children can win prizes, a cent auction, Trash and Treasure, show bags, farmers markets and various other ​stalls.</p><p>There will also be performances from the school band and choir, student dances and performances from local organisations.<br></p><p>“There really is something for everyone and our students have been working hard preparing what promises to be a lot of fun for the whole community" Mr Gray said.</p><p>The school's parents and friends association hopes to raise funds to expand the outdoor facilities at the school including creating a more diverse nature play area.<br></p><p>The gates to St Kieran's will open at 9am with rides commencing from 10am.  The school is located on the Northside of Brisbane ​at 15 Greenwood Street Brighton.</p><p>Keep up to date visit <a href="http://www.facebook.com/StKieransFete">http://www.facebook.com/StKieransFete</a><br></p><h2>Gold Sponsors<br></h2><p><img alt="Gold Sponsors.JPG" src="/featured-news/SiteAssets/Pages/Family-Fun-Day/Gold%20Sponsors.JPG" style="margin:5px;" /> </p><h2>Silver Sponsors<br></h2><p><img alt="Silver sponsors.JPG" src="/featured-news/SiteAssets/Pages/Family-Fun-Day/Silver%20sponsors.JPG" style="margin:5px;" />​<br></p><p><br> </p>
Flexible Learning Spaceshttp://www.stkieranbrighton.qld.edu.au/featured-news/Pages/Flexible-Learning-Spaces.aspxFlexible Learning Spaces<p>​​The teachers at St Kieran's Primary School in Brighton  are utilising flexible learning spaces to educate children for an exciting future.</p><p>This year, the Northside of Brisbane school, ​has created flexible learning spaces in all of their classrooms and has purchased well designed modular furniture and mobile technologies to enhance flexibility and functionality. </p><p>Teachers and students have enjoyed arranging the furniture in what is known as the 'Cave', 'Storytelling' and 'Watering Hole' styles of learning – individual, whole class and small group work stations which has led to innovative lessons that stimulate and encourage more collaborative practices.</p><p>Year 4 teacher Mrs Simone Jones said “Flexible learning spaces help our children to collaborate and learn in group settings, yet can be adapted to suit quiet, independent learning when the situation demands".</p><p>“As a teacher, engaging with 21<sup>st</sup> century learners is very exciting".</p><p>“We are able to tailor the learning to suit the students and their learning outcomes."</p><p>“If we need a quiet space then we have spaces to accommodate quiet work and if we need collaborative group discussion we have customised spaces to allow this interaction" Mrs Jones said.</p><p>Principal Mr Ben Gray said “New technologies and advancements in ways of thinking about teaching and learning allow us to be more creative in the classroom". </p><p>“Student engagement and flexible teaching methods are two key focus areas of teaching and learning here at St Kieran's Primary School" Mr Gray said.</p><p>Families who are interested in learning more about flexible learning spaces are invited to contact the School Office on 32695989 to arrange a tour of the school.​<br></p>
