​Welcome to the St Kieran’s Primary School website. Our school community provides high quality inclusive Catholic education for children from Prep to Year 6 in a co-educational setting. Flexible Learning Spaceshttp://www.stkieranbrighton.qld.edu.au/featured-news/Pages/Flexible-Learning-Spaces.aspxFlexible Learning Spaces<p>​The teachers at St Kieran's Primary School in Brighton are utilising flexible learning spaces to educate children for an exciting future.</p><p>This year, the school has created flexible learning spaces in all of their classrooms and has purchased well designed modular furniture and mobile technologies to enhance flexibility and functionality. </p><p>Teachers and students have enjoyed arranging the furniture in what is known as the 'Cave', 'Storytelling' and 'Watering Hole' styles of learning – individual, whole class and small group work stations which has led to innovative lessons that stimulate and encourage more collaborative practices.</p><p>Year 4 teacher Mrs Simone Jones said “Flexible learning spaces help our children to collaborate and learn in group settings, yet can be adapted to suit quiet, independent learning when the situation demands".</p><p>“As a teacher, engaging with 21<sup>st</sup> century learners is very exciting".</p><p>“We are able to tailor the learning to suit the students and their learning outcomes."</p><p>“If we need a quiet space then we have spaces to accommodate quiet work and if we need collaborative group discussion we have customised spaces to allow this interaction" Mrs Jones said.</p><p>Principal Mr Ben Gray said “New technologies and advancements in ways of thinking about teaching and learning allow us to be more creative in the classroom". </p><p>“Student engagement and flexible teaching methods are two key focus areas of teaching and learning here at St Kieran's Primary School" Mr Gray said.</p><p>Families who are interested in learning more about flexible learning spaces are invited to attend the St Kieran's Open Day held on Friday, 23 March from 9am to 10.30am.</p>
Caritas K'shttp://www.stkieranbrighton.qld.edu.au/featured-news/Pages/Project-Compassion-Caritas-K's.aspxCaritas K's<p style="text-align:center;"><strong>Local Students Take Steps for Justice</strong></p><p>The students, staff and families of St Kieran's Primary School are taking steps for justice during this year's Caritas Project Compassion.</p><p>The Caritas Australia fundraiser runs through the six weeks of Lent and brings hundreds of thousands of Australians together in solidarity with the world's most vulnerable communities, to help end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.</p><p>This year, one of the ways St Kieran's will raise money for Project Compassion is through their Caritas K's running club.  </p><p>HPE teacher Mrs Alaana Sheppard said “Our Caritas K's running club is a fun way for students, staff and our families to not only be active in the outdoors but to raise money for a wonderful cause". </p><p>“<em>Children</em> are naturally active, and at St Kieran's this is one of the many opportunities for our students to hone their energy into productive a<em>ctivities" Mrs Sheppard said.</em></p><p>Principal Mr Ben Gray said “Helping those less fortunate is​ very much part of the ethos of St Kieran's and of Catholic teaching"</p><p>“By being part of Project Compassion, we help our students to realise that while no one can do everything, we can all do something to make the world a better place".</p><p>“St Kieran's commitment to social justice ensures that our students finish their learning journey not only as better students but also as better members of society", Mr Gray said.</p><p>Money raised during Project Compassion goes towards Caritas Australia's humanitarian and long-term development programs in more than 40 countries across Asia, Africa, the Pacific and Latin America and with First Australian communities.</p><p>To donate, go to <a href="https://fundraise.caritas.org.au/join/St-Kieran-Primary-School">https://fundraise.caritas.org.au/join/St-Kieran-Primary-School</a><br></p><p>​<br></p>
